Muslim women banned from beauty pageant in Malaysia

Maybe we don’t really understand the dynamics of the Muslim community in Malaysia, but this headline really confused us.

How is it that Muslim women can parade around catwalks and participate in all kind of events, but when it comes to a beauty pageant they are “not allowed” to participate because of their religious affiliation?

Regardless of whether one believes Muslim women should be covered completely or not, it just seems quite ridiculous.

Muslim women just can’t catch a break, either their hijab or their religious beliefs seem to be reasons for discrimination.

    We will never see the likes of Yasmin Yussof 1978 representing Malaysia in world beauty contests. Have separate contests for Muslims and non-Muslims with different rules to conform with attire. Just saying.
