Last week, on the day that the pre-orders started for the new one, I dropped my old iPhone on the floor and cracked the screen. I took this as a sign that the iPhone 4 was in my future.
I’ve had one nearly since it first came out in 2007, and I don’t think I can live without the technology. I’ve become so dependent on having the Internet, GPS and e-mail at my fingertips that it would feel weird to have to use a computer whenever I wanted to look something up.
I was all ready to buy a new phone when it came out earlier this week, but I happened to drive by an Apple store on Wednesday night, the day before the release. The line outside the store was down the street, and it wasn’t even 10 p.m. Plus, this was on a night when Chicago experienced a crazy thunderstorm with tornado warnings. So these were some hardcore fans.
I’m not about to attempt to get a phone any time soon when I’ll have to wait hours in line. I may really want one, but I can’t turn into one of those people. It still amazes me that there’s such a demand for iPhones when they’ve been out for so many years now. They’re definitely cool, but is it necessary to get one the minute they come out?
I understand the desire, though. I mean, I was one of the millions of people who waited for hours for the release of the final three Harry Potter books.
It’s fun to do every once in a while. But I think I’ll be patient for the phone and deal with a cracked screen. At least for a FEW more weeks.

Apple stores are always packed with people- even when there isn’t a new iPhone being introduced! They have a hot product.
