Brazilian fashion house Barbara Bela kicked off the fashion festivities for day one at Dubai Fashion Week. Presenting a collection of more than 32 evening gowns, the label, which considers the Middle East market as its second largest, presented its designs on the catwalk for the first time in the region.

Evening gowns in flowing satins set in rich tones of magnificent yellows, fuchsia pinks, emerald greens, bright ambers, deep purples and midnight blues, evoked warm visions of tropical settings, and were used to create elegant dresses with sophisticated silhouettes.

The use of a single color enhanced the couturier details and touches such as layering, wraps, bows, pleats, ruffles and asymmetrical shoulders. Whether the rich brocades on the bodices or chunky bangles and necklaces supporting the gowns, the emphasis was clearly on creating refined and stylish dresses for a consummate woman with the chunky jewelry providing the appropriate touch of glitz.

Although designed with all women in mind, Barbara Bela’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection represents a shift towards edgy glamour, combining the elements of classicism and vivacity.
