Inesa from Fort Worth, Texas is our winner for the Queen Rania dress drawing.
Here is the winning entry:
“I live in texas, yes, texas and I have been wearing hijab for 5 years (since I was 13). Yet, I still think its funny when people come up to me and ask me if I’m hot. At first (because I didn’t want people to think I was oppressed or something) I would say that it was okay because you get used to it. However, now I just look at them and I say, “It’s Texas, of course it’s hot. I do this to please God, and God alone.” All through high school I was the only hijabi (and for a few years, the only Muslim), so I would get even funnier questions than normal. I like to be modest, yet fashionable so all of my hijabs either coordinate or compliment my outfits and once someone asked me if it was a requirement for Muslims to coordinate their hijabs with their outfits. That is the favorite question that I’ve gotten and I don’t think that I would have gotten it anywhere else besides rural Texas.
”
Congratulations!

salamu alikom,,
i really liked ur story and felt connected to it!!
specially the “arent u hot”?? !! i live in the middle east so in there its he norm… but now am in a vacation in italy … and i meet people who admire it,, people who come talk to me bcoz of it,, and arabs and muslims who are happy to find me there..wearing hijab and fully dressed,,,coz ppl here show more than they hide!!! and yeaaaah it is HOT … u feel hot so y are u asking me!! i feel it too..mohajaba (hijabi) or not!!
but most people reacts positively about it … its freedom to wear wat u want!!
Congratulations Inesa! I really enjoyed what you had to say. I’ve been to Texas once in July/August and I do understand HOT! LOL I’m sure you look wonderful daily and I hope you wear this dress well. Let us know how you like it when you receive it!
than you all soooo much. I really couldn’t believe that I won. Especially because some people wrote novels about it and I only wrote a little bit. Thank you for your support and inshaAllah I will definitely let yall know how it goes. Honestly, I have been reading hijabtrendz for a little bit less than a year and Mariam Sobh is such an inspiration to me because I’ve always wanted to be a journalist and also because she is an actress and it takes a lot of guts just to put yourself out there, especially as a hijabi because sometimes we all get self-concious or whatever about being hijabi. Thank you soooooo much!
I’m not just saying that I love Mariam Sobh because I won, but because I’ve always really wanted to say that but I think this is an appropriate time to do so.
I see two really good things in Inesa’s story: that she says plainly, ‘I do this to please God and God alone,’ and that element of humor at the end about being asked whether Muslims are required to coordinate their hijabs with their clothing. Congratulations Inesa!
You’re more than welcome Inesa, thanks so much for your compliments.
